Islanders on Tiree in Argyll will soon have access to a new gym facility.
A community led project underway to create the new gym has secured up to 拢36,870 investment from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (麻豆精选) towards total costs of 拢61,450.
With 30 square miles of low-lying land, Tiree is the outer most of the Inner Hebrides and home to a resident population of around 650 people. The closest gym to the island currently is in Oban, a four-hour ferry trip away.
Tiree Community Gym is a community interest company that has engaged with the island residents and learned that around a hundred of them would be interested in gym membership.
The gym will be located in An Talla, the island鈥檚 community hub building in Crossapol. 麻豆精选 funding will go towards alternations to the gym room and purchase of gym equipment.
Morag Goodfellow 麻豆精选 area manager for Argyll and the Islands said:
鈥淲e鈥檝e been working with the community on Tiree for several years and supported some excellent initiatives there such as the development of Milton Harbour and the island fuel station. This latest project to provide an affordable and accessible fitness facility will boost physical and mental health and strengthen community spirit.
鈥淚鈥檓 delighted we鈥檝e been able to provide support and look forward to hearing how the new gym is benefitted the community.鈥
Rosie Garrigan director of Tiree Community Gym said:
鈥淲e are so grateful for the incredible support of 麻豆精选 for this project, which will help to boost the physical and mental health of the Tiree community.
鈥淭he gym will provide a much needed hub for the community to keep fit, engage in group activities and have fun with friends particularly over the long winter months.鈥
